2068: IT Project Financial Controls Analyst

Role Objectives

The Project Controls Analyst is a core member of the Tricon Managed Service team at Husky Energy. Tricon is responsible Provide services to support the execution of the Husky IS Project Portfolio (Capital Investment Portfolio). The Project Controls Team is responsible for collection, analysis and reporting of all financial information for programs and projects in the IS Project Portfolio, at a minimum, on a monthly basis. In collaboration with Husky's IS Program Managers, Project Managers and Finance teams, ensure all costs are managed and reported efficiently and accurately.

As a managed service team, we are a collaborative, cohesive team of cost management experts that provide day-to-day support and advisory, but also ongoing recommendations and implementation of continuous improvement of cost management processes within the department. 

Responsibilities

  • Provide financial support for IS Projects including: entering weekly and monthly data for projects into PPM tool, manage and report on weekly status of IS projects, reporting and analysis of financial health of projects and portfolio, identify trends and potential issues or errors, report on and analysis of projects progressing through PDE execution phases;
  • Provide direct financial reporting and project planning support to Program and Supplier Project Managers, including preparation of budgets and forecasts to project and track financial metrics such as capital vs expense or incurred vs forecasted financials;
  • Monitor budget cost distributions, including: budget reconciliations, variance analysis, project forecasting, and monthly financial accruals;
  • Processing and reporting on Accruals (understanding incurred project effort VS monthly cleared invoices with AP department);
  • S-Curve Analysis (charting EVM variances for project cost and schedule);
  • Project/Program CR workflows (approvals, portfolio transfers between programs etc.);
  • Prepare reporting and dashboard output acceptable for senior management presentations;
  • Work with Program and the Supplier Project Managers to ensure project financial tracking is current and accurate, contributing to the effective and efficient flow of financial information;
  • Act as the Supplier Project Manager's primary point of contact to support project funding and financials and advise Supplier Project Managers who may not be familiar with Husky processes and requirements, and make sure things are done properly in the system;
  • Assist Supplier Project Managers in the day-to-day management of project delivery responsible for releasing funding when projects get Gate 2 or Change Request approvals;
  • Ad hoc invoicing, timesheet and billing verification and reconciliation;
  • Review/validate actual information feeding into the cost and schedule baselines, activity status reports, requisitions and invoices to ensure the Project/AFE/Cost code is in alignment with SAP;
  • Critically analyze existing cost control procedure, practices and standards and provide suggestions for IS Project Controls Managed Service improvement;
  • Financial close out;
  • Review/validate actual information feeding into the cost and schedule baselines (activity status reports, requisitions and invoices to ensure the Project/AFE/Cost code is in alignment with SAP.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Financial Certification or equivalent education and/or experience
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working directly in a financial or cost analysis role
  • Persistent attention to detail, while maintaining an overall view of responsibilities and deadlines
  • Strong team player
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple planned and unplanned project tasks, roles and responsibilities
  • Good working knowledge of Project delivery methodologies, IT projects or PMO processes desired
  • Demonstrated work ethic, integrity and professional conduct
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and an environment of change
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency with MS Excel
  • Experience with SAP, MS Project, MS Sharepoint definite assets
